IDV (insured declared value)

IDV is the most the insurer will pay if your car is stolen or damaged beyond repair. It is the current list price of the same model minus a fixed depreciation by age: 5% under six months, 15% up to one year, then 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% up to five years; after that it is agreed with the insurer.

A lower IDV cuts the premium but also cuts what you get back after a total loss.
