Comprehensive car insurance vs Third-party insurance

Third-party insurance is the legal minimum: it pays for harm you cause to others, not your own car, and a new car must carry three years of it. Own-damage cover pays for your own car after an accident, theft, fire or flood. A comprehensive policy is the two together; for a new car it is usually one year of own damage plus three years of third party, and from the second year you can buy standalone own-damage cover from any insurer.
