TPMS warns you when a tyre's pressure drops. Direct TPMS has a pressure sensor in each wheel and can show every tyre's pressure; indirect TPMS has no pressure sensors and uses the ABS wheel-speed sensors to spot a wheel turning at a different speed from the others, which a soft tyre does.
It catches a slow puncture before the tyre is damaged, which matters with tubeless tyres that lose air slowly.
