Maruti is selling the faster Brezza for less money. Thank the tax man.

The 110 hp turbo opens at ₹7.40 lakh, the 103 hp 1.5 at ₹8.30 lakh. The gap is a GST slab, not generosity.

  • The 2026 Brezza adds a 1.0 Boosterjet turbo making 110 hp, and it is the cheapest way into the range.
  • At LXi, the turbo undercuts the 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol by ₹90,000.
  • The 1.0 attracts 18% GST; the 1.5 line stays in the 40% slab.
  • Six airbags are now standard and the car holds a five-star Bharat NCAP rating.

More power for less money is not usually how a price list works. This one had help.

The new Brezza went on sale on 24 July 2026, from ₹7.40 lakh to ₹13.55 lakh ex-showroom. The headline is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol, 110 hp and 170 Nm, an engine the outgoing car never offered, paired with a new six-speed manual. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol carries on at 103 hp and 139 Nm, the CNG at 88 hp, and the six-speed automatic stays with the 1.5. The rest is a light facelift: reworked bumpers, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, six airbags now standard, and five stars under Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection.

Then the price list. LXi with the turbo is ₹7.40 lakh; LXi with the 1.5 is ₹8.30 lakh. The more powerful engine is ₹90,000 cheaper, and the gap holds at VXi and ZXi too. The tax code explains most of it: under 1,200cc in a sub-four-metre body, the turbo sits in the 18% GST slab while the 1.5 line stays at 40. One caveat before anyone says ADAS. The new assistance kit is blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and safe exit warning. There is no automatic emergency braking anywhere in the range.

The engine got better. The tax code did the discount.
