Crumple zone

Crumple zones are the front and rear sections of a car built to crush in a controlled way in a crash, absorbing energy so less of it reaches the people inside. A car that crumples is not badly built; what matters is that the passenger compartment stays strong, which is what crash tests look at.

Thick sheet metal or a heavy feel is not a crash rating; check the crash test result instead.
