A crash test star rating, from 0 to 5 stars, tells you how well a car protected crash-test dummies in standard tests and whether it has certain safety equipment. Stars are given separately for adults and children, and they compare fairly only between cars tested by the same programme under the same protocol.
A rating applies to the variant tested and its safety kit; a lower variant with fewer airbags may not match it.
