monocoque-vs-ladder

In a monocoque the body shell is the structure, with no separate frame; nearly all cars and many SUVs are built this way, which keeps them lighter and more comfortable. A ladder-frame vehicle has its body on a separate steel frame, built for rough use and heavy loads, but heavier and with a firmer ride. Mahindra's Scorpio N, Thar and Bolero are ladder-frame; its XUV700 is a monocoque.
