Monocoque vs ladder frame

In a monocoque, or unibody, car the body shell itself is the structure, with no separate chassis frame; most cars and many SUVs, such as the Mahindra XUV700, are built this way. A ladder-frame vehicle has its body mounted on a separate steel frame, as the Scorpio N, Thar and Bolero are; it is built for rough use and heavy loads, and the ride is usually firmer.
