The service interval is how often the carmaker says the car needs routine servicing, as a distance or a time, whichever comes first. The Kia Seltos, for example, is serviced every 10,000 km or 12 months after a first check at 1,000 km. The owner's manual lists what is done at each service, and a shorter schedule for hard use such as short trips, heavy traffic or dusty roads.
