Turbocharged engine (turbo petrol)

A turbocharger uses the engine's exhaust gas to spin a compressor that forces more air into the cylinders, so more fuel can be burned and a small engine can make the power of a bigger one. Turbo petrols feel strong in the middle of the rev range; their real-world mileage depends heavily on how hard you drive.

Good for highways and overtaking; if you mostly crawl in traffic, a naturally aspirated engine or a hybrid often returns better mileage.
