A DCT's two clutches are either dry, running in air, or wet, running in the gearbox oil, which carries heat away. A dry unit can overheat with repeated stop-start launches on steep slopes, which is why Kia's manual warns against holding the car on a hill with the accelerator; a wet unit copes better with heat and higher torque. The Kia Seltos's seven-speed DCT is dry.
