E20 is petrol blended with up to 20% ethanol. Since 1 April 2026, oil companies must sell E20 with a minimum octane rating of 95 RON at pumps across India. Ethanol carries less energy than petrol, so mileage can drop slightly, and handbooks of older cars may approve only E10.
Check whether your car is certified E20-compatible; the handbook or fuel-filler label says so.
