Electric cars pay 5% GST, against 18% or 40% for petrol and diesel cars. Most states also cut or waive road tax for electric cars, but the rules differ and change: of the 17 states in axler8's prices, 12 charge none, Delhi's waiver stops at Rs 30 lakh, and Karnataka ended its waiver in April 2026. Check the state where you will register the car.
