A kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power, meaning how fast energy flows. For an EV, kW describes the motor's output and how fast a charger can put energy in: a 7.2 kW charger adds about 7.2 kWh in an hour, while a 50 kW DC charger can add several times that in the same hour.
